What do you mean by a “green roof“?

Depending on your budget, different materials can be used in your roofing project which is considered “green”.
Green roofing doesn’t mean that your roof has green things growing on it.  In fact, unless your roof is built to support plants, no plants should grow on your roof as they deteriorate the materials.
Green roofing means that a roof has been created using environmentally friendly materials or in an environmentally friendly way.  For example, metal roofing is often considered “green”.  Using recycled materials is often considered “green”.  There are many ways to go green and some of these ways include tax benefits.  This is something to consider if you are getting your roof re-done.
ThermaCote - is a sprayable ceramic coating that will provide true protection from the thermal exchange of temperature from solar roof loads, industrial manufacturing equipment, or commercial HVAC systems and even residential roofs.  ThermaCote® provides superior solar reflectance (90+% of all UV rays), eliminates thermal bridging between structural building components, eliminates the expansion and contraction of dis-similar building materials, and most importantly reduces the thermal BTU gain that costs you money.

Additionally, ThermaCote is a GREEN product that is water based, stops rust, seals surfaces and can be applied to most surfaces without primers or additional chemical preparation.

What is Roof Coating?

A roof coating is an added layer of protection positioned on a completed roof. Carrying out as a way of enhancing the roof’s capability to continue unharmed from rain, hail, wind and sunlight, roof coating is frequently in the form of a thin membrane that seals the materials used to make the roof, successfully establish a barrier among the elements and the actual roof. When applied appropriately, a roof coating can add value to the life of just about any type of roof.

What are the types of roof coating?
The majority of the population is well aware about the essential fact that roofs are reasonably exclusive part of their house and need appropriate care. Though, their maintenance is fairly costly as they have a propensity to spend huge money even for a little kind of repair work, that’s why people have a first choice to protect them correctly. They are available in different varieties that range from reflective to waterproof and so on:
Waterproof coating
As the name says– this type of specific coating provides a layer of water-resistant and makes the roof watertight. If there is any escape found on the top, then a waterproof layer helps to mend that leak and make the roof flawless.
Asphalt coating
This is the type, which helps the roof to abandon water and repel the effects of being exposed to weather conditions. It also helps to ward off the effects of atmosphere.
White covering
White coatings are favoured as they are reflective in nature and tend to steady decrease in the house temperature. In that way, they are bringing down the cooling cost that may have otherwise occurred. Even though lots of people stay away from white coloured covering as they are prone to dust but it is simple to power wash the unclean areas. A second layer of white paint probably will help you to preserve the polish of the covering for extended time.

Steel Roofing

STEEL ROOFING
Surface temperature must be at least 10º C ( 50º F) before applying acrylic steel roofing.  Tighten all screws or replace them with the next largest size if they are spinning. Remove loose rust, dirt, oily residues with high pressure wash. Rusted steel roofing must be primed with a good quality rust primer such as our Rustite Direct to Metal Rust Primer. Problem seams and holes can be filled with our Lap Joint Sealer or sealed using our Tape-Kote Roof Seam Tape. (Safe-T-Plex forms a watertight adhesive bond to this tape.)  Apply Tape-Kote Seam Tape around all objects that protrude through the roof (air conditioners, vents, breather pipes, etc.).

STEEL ROOF APPLICATION
All rusty roof surfaces must be primed using Rustite Metal Primer at least 24  hours prior to applying Safe-T-Plex Elastomeric Roof Coating.
Do not apply Safe-T-Plex if rain, heavy dew, or frost appears imminent during the next 24 hours. Minimum temperature during application and curing must be 10ºC (50ºC).

How to prolong lifespan of your roof?

Thermal Barrier Coatings offers reflective roof membranes which not only lower the roof life cycle costs by making the roof last longer but also extend the tear-off date indefinitely. These coatings repair system is unlike a traditional roof in that it is a spray applied massively, coating system that can be applied directly over your leaking and aging roof. This system costs up to 50-70% less money than replacing your roof. With it is an additional value of being able to re-coat your roof every 15 or so years, giving you a new, waterproof, reflective roof membrane with half the cost and time a tear-off would take.

What is Ceramic Coatings?

Ceramic coating has been around for many years and is highly effective in preventing unnecessary heat loss or gain in residential and commercial structures.
Ceramic coating is a paint mixed with one or more ceramic mixtures for application via spray or roller to external and internal sides. Depending on the ceramic composites used, this insulating product has the ability to prevent heat transfer and heat loading onto a structure. This means heat will not transfer into or out of a structure.

Unlike fiberglass insulation, whose R-value ranking assumes heat loading by a building and simply measures the rate at which that heat is transferred, ceramic coatings are not given an R-value ranking. Instead, they are rated by “emission rate.” a measure of both their ability to reflect heat and the amount of heat that is loaded onto a surface.

A research study says that “The right key to insulation is preventing heat load”. The concept is simple: rather than using fiberglass insulation which is slow in process, we can use the ceramic coatings which give us efficient as well as effective effect.

Windows - Energy Saving Coatings

Energy saving coatings on windows is fetching gradually more complex so that in its place of include 1 or 2 layers they can now consist of seven to eight.

1 regulatory affairs expert in the sector said "A set of R&D is now being carried out into these coatings to meet the exact demands of customers so there can be lots of dissimilar formulations". "The number of diverse coatings is also rising for the reason that of the diverse degrees of control needed on emissions, solar reflectance & on the quantity of light leaving through the glass. With such a massive variety of options, there is a requirement for greater standardization of the assorted types of coatings."

The coatings are typically made & applied by the glass producer themselves, either throughout or after construction. However with the coatings flattering more intricate, their produce & application is being outsourced. Also the coating of the rising levels of bring in glass for windows, much of it from China, is organism done by expert applicators in Europe.

The European Commission quarrels that the new systems are essential to harmonize & toughen up obtainable national rules in EU associate states.

They will also assist the EU achieve its purpose of a 20 percent diminution in energy expenditure & greenhouse gas emission by 2020. The buildings division is the major user of energy & CO2 emitter in the EU, organism accountable for 40 percent of the region's entirety energy utilization.

The conventions are due to be accepted in a while by the European Parliament & the Council of Ministers, on behalf of the EU governments, so that they can approach into result in the next two - three years."
